The 1000 NSW Public Sector Apprentices and Trainees Program
Building skills for the future: The NSW public sector’s commitment to apprenticeships and traineeships
The NSW Government is investing $93.5 million through the 1000 NSW Public Sector Apprentices and Trainees Program to recruit 1,000 apprentices and trainees across public sector agencies and State Owned Corporations by 30 June 2026. This initiative addresses skills shortages and boosts employment opportunities for young people and those re-entering the workforce, ensuring a strong pipeline of talent for key industries like transport, health, electricity, and IT.
Achievements
This program creates new employment pathways by combining work with formal qualifications, providing participants with valuable skills and experience that enhance their career prospects.
With over 650 new apprentices and trainees commenced under the program to date, it is on track to deliver against the commitment for 1,000 new apprentices and trainees.
IT and cyber security traineeships have been well supported under the program with an additional 59 established in the first 2 rounds.
The final round of the program has now closed for employers, with all funded roles to commence by 30 June 2026.
