Connectivity Index and Benefit Estimator
Description
Develop a statewide connectivity Index with visualisation tool to identify gaps, set aspirational fixed and mobile connectivity targets and prioritise department connectivity investments via a Connectivity Benefits Estimator. The Index measures the quality of digital connectivity across the state and is based on metrics such as coverage, speeds, choice and latency. It is measured at a granular level based on public and commercially acquired datasets, with a separate index for mobile and fixed connectivity.
Customer Outcomes
Evidence based measure of current state connectivity and robust quantification of benefits to underpin government infrastructure business cases.
Find and Fix
Description
Deliver a 'Find and Fix' program to support identification and solution development for whole of government digital connectivity enhancements. These projects will be delivered by teams with strategy, customer, technology and commercial expertise in partnership with cross-government agencies.
Customer Outcomes
Leverage cross-department connectivity initiatives to deliver meaningful connectivity for the benefit of multiple agencies and communities.
Connectivity Standards
Description
Develop minimum connectivity standards to embed connectivity requirements into government infrastructure programs. These will be principles are being developed with telecommunications providers, all levels of government and industry bodies to ensure they can be implemented for all new NSW Government roads, tunnels, buildings or other infrastructure.
Customer Outcomes
Consistent minimum connectivity standards for new government infrastructure development to ensure connectivity needs are embedded from the start.
Run Experiments to create Insights and Learnings into Next Generation Connectivity
Description
The NSWTA product team will be responsible for running experiments to trial new technology solutions that can better meet the needs of Emergency Service Organisations and the community in crisis situations where traditional communications do not work. Experiment use cases will trial not only the provision of connectivity, but also assess fit-for-purpose technical solutions which enable the delivery of government services and community place-based access.
The four specific experiments being run are as follows: Emerging Satellite Service Enabled Connectivity, In-field Operational MESH Wi-Fi Connectivity, In-field Nomadic Connectivity Services and In-Field Operational Data Over Commercial Services.
Customer Outcomes
The validation of the performance and the creation of true insight into potential LTE and non-terrestrial (satellite) solutions that could be used to provide connectivity to communities, businesses, and public services across NSW.
