Government Secure Network
The GSN offers government agencies a secure and scalable IT network environment for all their data hosting needs.
The Government Secure Network (GSN) exists to provide critical infrastructure capabilities for NSW Government Agencies.
The GSN is an end-to-end encrypted, multi-tenant network fabric connecting server/storage environments for agencies, service providers and cloud hosting environments. It compliments other networking environments such as Telco Authority Wide Area Network Connectivity Strategy and department SDWAN platforms.
By aggregating network links, GSN reduces vast amounts of replication, underutilization and overspending.
Benefits of the GSN
GSN addresses the IT networking requirements between data hosting environments to provide secure network services and maximise cost savings. GSN directly supports the NSW Government Cloud Policy and GovDC mandate by providing a common interconnector for hosting locations.
GSN is included as a State Digital Asset. State Digital Assets (SDA) are digital platforms, services or data that are used by more than one NSW Government agency. They are the building blocks for NSW to provide proactive, customised, and seamless services to our customers.
GSN Services
The GSN will offer multiple services to assist with connectivity of data hosting locations. The initial service is Data Centre Interconnect.
Data Centre Interconnect (DCI)
DCI provides a secure and efficient connectivity capability between GovDC data centres and any specifically approved alternate data centre hosting NSW government systems and data.
DCI will offer 10Gb increments of end-to-end encrypted network traffic, isolated from all other DCI traffic using Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) protocol.
Benefits for government agencies and partners:
1. Network as a Service |
Reduce agency dependency on network experts by utilising GSN as a Service, allowing agency to focus on it’s primary responsibilities |
2. No need to source and manage dedicated private DCI links |
GTP will provide the required data bandwidth as part of an aggregated and scalable link |
3. End-to-end encrypted networks |
Directly connect to partners and providers over secure links, easily and quickly |
4. Rapid adoption |
Data centre points of presence already established, hence, no delays in establishing links |
5. Whole of government benefits |
Benefits of scale achieved by GTP passed through to customers as more flexible arrangements |
Secure Cloud Interconnect (coming soon)
GTP is investigating the benefits that can be achieved by connecting GSN directly to hyperscaler networks. Details will be updated here as the offering is developed.
