COVID-19 public health emergency has been a difficult time for all of us. To support and assist the community during this unprecedented time, the Australian Government launched the HomeBuilder Grant. This scheme provides eligible owner occupiers (including first home buyers) with a grant of $25,000 to build a new home, substantially renovate an existing home, or buy an off the plan home/new home. A new home is one that has not previously been sold or occupied as a place of residence, (e.g. spec build) and where construction commenced on or after 4 June 2020.
Revenue NSW collaborated and worked with other state revenue offices to implement this program via the National First Home Owner Grant Committee. The different state governments worked cohesively to develop scheme guidelines, develop the application process, and build a digital application for this. NSW Government was instrumental in developing and launching the new digital application portal.
With the help of this digital portal, applicants can lodge their application through a simple and seamless online form. This portal provides applicants with a checklist to support them in determining the different documentation required to successfully lodge an application. It's exciting to know that within the first 2 months of the scheme announcement, Revenue NSW received 2,800 customer enquiries, and Commonwealth Treasury received around 7,500 enquiries from NSW Residents.
