Contributing to a cyber safe NSW
We’re pleased to introduce the NSW Government’s new Cyber Security Strategy – a call to action for everyone in the public sector to contribute to a cyber safe NSW.
Developed by the Government Chief Information Security Officer (GCISO), the Strategy lays the foundation for a secure, integrated and responsive whole-of-government approach to cyber threats.
Cyber incidents are rarely targeted at one person or organisation – they are often widespread and rapidly moving. By sharing information across the sector rather than responding in isolation, we can help others act more quickly and avoid threats.
Under the NSW Government’s collaborative approach to managing cyber security, agencies are responsible for maintaining security of their own systems, services and infrastructure, while the GCISO provides coordination, advice and threat intelligence.
Individuals have an important role to play. We encourage NSW Government employees to identify their agency’s Chief Information Security Officer, be familiar with their agency’s procedures for reporting cyber security incidents, and ensure they know what to do when they come across a scam phishing email.
We also encourage you to read our top tips for cyber security and familiarise yourself with who to contact for support for cyber protection, here on digital.nsw.
The NSW Cyber Security Strategy will ensure the NSW Government is equipped to prevent, prepare for and respond to incidents and that each agency and all staff have a clear understanding of their role.
The Strategy also tells the story of how, together, we’ll be creating a cyber safe NSW that’s connected, protected and trusted.
