Workplace safety is everyone’s responsibility. If you see something unsafe, SafeWork NSW wants you to speak up and tell your boss.
SafeWork NSW is the state’s workplace health and safety regulator, tasked with responding to workplace health and safety concerns and incidents.
After responding to a workplace fatality in April 2019, SafeWork NSW emphasised on understanding how to make it easier for workers to speak up about work health and safety issues, when not everyone feels confident in raising unsafe work when they see it.
In October 2019, SafeWork NSW launched Speak Up Save Lives App, which allows customers to easily and anonymously report workplace health and safety concerns with their mobile phone or browser anytime anywhere.
The app was co-designed by keeping the customer at the center and allows customers to send photos of unsafe work practice or high-risk situations directly to SafeWork NSW. It also enables customers to share a GPS location if the exact address is not known. Once a report is received, each report is promptly before action is undertaken.
“The new Speak Up reporting tool will give workers an easy, protected, and fast way to report any work health and safety problems they may be facing, direct to SafeWork NSW from their mobile device,” says Kevin Anderson, Minister for Better Regulation and Innovation.
“Safety is everyone’s responsibility, and everyone should feel confident they can report unsafe conditions. This new tool provides another way for workers to notify SafeWork NSW of a safety concern which may impact their own wellbeing and that of their work mates.”
It’s promising to know that since the launch, over 3090 workplace health and safety concerns have been successfully reported. Furthermore, 920 improvement notices, and 175 notices prohibiting unsafe work activities have been issued.
Speak Up to let us know about unsafe work anywhere and anytime now.
