Ensuring students are able to maintain continuity of learning and access to wellbeing support during a global public health crisis is of utmost importance. To ensure this was maintained in NSW Public Schools, NSW Department of Education has launched Learning from Home Hub as part of the education.nsw.gov.au website.
Learning from Home Hub is a central repository of information and resources to guide principals, teachers, and parents/carers to support students from K-12 in the delivery of learning whether at school or remotely. The hub provides access to critical curriculum and assessment advice, teaching and learning resources including learning packs for students, wellbeing activities, on demand professional learning and operational advice. The hub has quickly become the trusted ‘one source of truth’ for all customers.
With the help of the hub, teachers and support staff throughout the state received consistent and timely quality professional learning. Furthermore, 37,324 school-based staff participated in 127 on demand professional learning courses in curriculum, technology, leadership and school administration resulting in 140,321 course completions.
Over 20 state-wide curriculum staffrooms enabled more than 28,000 NSW teachers to receive timely advice and assistance in all key learning areas. These staffrooms also provided an environment to facilitate discussions between teachers as well as sharing of resources and insights. The hub ensured the continuity of learning and teaching, whether students were learning face-to-face in the classroom or at home supervised by an adult.
The NSW Department of Education has worked closely with other jurisdictions to ensure that teaching and learning resources are being shared and made available to all states and territories and other NSW educational sectors. The Learning from Home Hub has had over 3 million-page views, 800,000 users and more than 460,000 resource downloads. The hub regularly receives traffic from around the globe including New Zealand, India, the Philippines, USA and UK.
