Tackling the tyranny of distance with a collaboration unique in Australia and perhaps the world, the Rural eHealth Program has boosted health IT infrastructure, resources and capability seen in rural NSW, a vast area of 650,000 square kilometres serving 1.3 million residents.
This program has integrated and supported the delivery of digital health systems to 17,000 staff in more than 150 health facilities, from Mullumbimby in the north to Moruya in the south and Menindee in the west. It is a unique program that has enhanced patient care across six rural local health districts - Murrumbidgee, Southern NSW, Mid North Coast, Far West, Northern NSW and Western NSW.
With the help of the trail-blazing Rural eHealth Program, clinicians and staff are now better supported to deliver improved and safer health services to residents. This has in turn enhanced the patient experience by raising standards to those experienced in larger, metropolitan facilities.
