With the NSW Education Wallet students will plan and implement employment and education pathways that suit them. Students can curate and share their passions, achievements, skills and strengths assisting their next steps in life.
"Over the next two years, the NSW Government will spend $24.55 million to deliver a suite of online services for students across NSW."
With new investment from the Digital Restart Fund, the Education Wallet program will improve students' access to, and management of, information about their passions, achievements, skills and strengths. The program will also support better decision making for young people when exploring post-school training options.
The Education Wallet provides key services for students. The Learner Passport will allow students to represent their best selves, including skills developed in the classroom and outside. The program will provide a record for students to build during their school years and then share with future employers and further education providers. Establishing a holistic digital record of academic and non-academic achievements will help students talk to career advisers and parents about employment, education and training opportunities matched to skills that industries want.
Key to the Education Wallet's value for young people is that the Learner Passport does more than just help employers and training organisations find qualified staff, it helps students to recognise their own skills and strengths and make better-informed choices for their future.
The updated Skills Compare service will help young people find subsidised vocational courses and providers to develop skills that employers across NSW need. The tool is of particular value as it helps direct students to courses that address current skills shortages in NSW.
Minister for Digital NSW, the Hon Victor Dominello, described the Education Wallet and its services as a 'micro-economic reform', more effectively matching motivated and skilled employees with industry keen for new personnel.
Combined, the Learner Passport and Skills Compare services will help young people find clarity to make more informed choices about their next step into jobs or further education.
Developed and delivered by the NSW Department of Education, the Education Wallet is being co-designed with students, teachers and specialist school staff, education providers and employers to ensure the digital tools meet their needs.
