We are supporting innovation in industry, start-ups and community through various innovation challenges in government. Successful ideas that provide better transport experience to our customers go through our incubation phase, are released into the market and supported by Transport for NSW
Our innovation challenges in 2019 has seen some great success stories. The Trip Planner API Innovation Challenge was launched to create a pathway to provide better real-time transport information to customers with a focus on trip planning. The AnyTrip app was selected for endorsement through this challenge. AnyTrip allows customers to track public transport vehicles around them in real time know which service they are travelling on as well as at-a-glance view of all public transport departures in NSW. Commuters can also share arrival times and service alerts via social channels.
Mobility as a Service (MaaS) Innovation Challenge was launched in 2019 to provide customers with the ideal door-to-door travel experience by enabling more options and better travel combinations to suit individual needs. The challenge was driven by traffic congestion, increasing population, constrained capacity and a lack of last mile connectivity. FerryConnect by Uber was selected and offered users the opportunity to commute to and from Manly Wharf via Uber Pool in a more convenient and affordable way than driving their private car. The trial in 2019 saw substantial growth in uptake as it progressed, hitting a peak of 1,041 trips in Week 25 of the trial.
We encourage innovators and entrepreneurs from startups through to global technology companies to get involved in our upcoming Innovation Challenges or contact Transport Digital Accelerator now for more information.
