Protecting communities from the devastating effects of COVID-19 is a government priority. The closure of borders and the introduction of Border Zone permits presented a difficult communication issue – people need to know where the Border Zone is and whether they reside within it.
DCS Spatial Services is validating addressing data to assist in tracking Border Zone permits through the evolving border closures between NSW, Victoria and Queensland. Using NSW Point and Service Point applications, DCS Spatial Services has provided valuable analytics including travellers’ origin-destination data to government agencies such as NSW Health and Service NSW. This has ensured that NSW Government is using efficient real time reporting to drive better decision making during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Border Zone permit dashboard is easy to use, accurate, provides clear and colour coded geo-located analytics and is delivered in real time. Using the visualisation platform and dashboard, government agencies are empowered and better equipped to respond to COVID-19 cases that may result from border crossings including the ability to trace possible COVID-19 sources. Analytics have also proved useful in resource planning for border crossing locations.
The Border Zone Address Check has enabled customers to clearly understand the geographical extent of the border zone. This has resulted in customers being reassured that their essential travel is supported and validated by NSW Government ensuring COVID-19 safe practises across NSW.
