Previously, Australia had been identified as having lack of capacity for innovation and opportunities in ag-technology development industry. The Global Ag-Tech Ecosystem (GATE) initiative has been created by NSW Department of Primary Industries (NSW DPI) to foster innovation and entrepreneurship training focused on ag-technologies.
The GATE assists in fast tracking of digital technologies and innovation to primary industry by running innovation and start-up programs for DPI researchers and entrepreneurs. It also invests in projects to generate public and industry wide benefits. Furthermore, it offers opportunities to collaborate, prototype and run trials with entrepreneurs and start-ups in ag-tech domain.
With the help of Gate initiative, NSW DPI has developed innovative public/private entrepreneurial model to generate impact and provided world class support in regional NSW for ag-tech innovation.
It is exciting to know that within the first two years itself, GATE has fostered 37 businesses and attracted over $40 million in investment to those businesses through incubation and acceleration. Five GATE participants had the opportunity to tour India while partaking in the program. The teams have also engaged with over 25 international delegations of investors and businesses.
