Previously, the NSW Planning System was reliant on paper-based transactions that could only be conducted in person during business hours. The lack of transparency of planning processes and the poor turnaround in assessment times directly impacted the productivity of industry, councils, state agencies and government.
With the help of NSW Planning Portal, stakeholders in select local government areas can now work collaboratively on a proposed development from anywhere at any time. It is a secure and easy to understand platform that provides all the information customers need to make informed planning decisions. The portal contains a range of integrated digital planning services, enabling the submission and determination of planning applications, from development applications through to post-consent certificates.
This has improved transparency of planning processes, reduced assessment times and increased the accountability for all stakeholders. Furthermore, the NSW Planning Portal is providing a better customer experience for the community, industry, councils and state agencies. A full list of digital planning services, and the local government areas where they are available, can be found on the portal.
In recognition of its success in building the NSW Planning Portal, the ePlanning Program won the 2019 Pega Build for Change Award held in USA, for its contribution to digital transformation within the public service sector.
