Currently, completing the paper based public housing lease is both time consuming and costly. With the new Digital Tenant Leases initiative, customers are now able to complete the new public housing lease using a fully digital mobile experience anytime and anywhere.
New public housing lease can now be conducted digitally in a location that suits the needs of the customer, such as inside the incoming tenants’ new home, and other locations such as hospitals, emergency housing facilities and even gaols. This ensures that customers can move directly from their current residence into the property without delay.
With the help of this initiative, all lease documentation has been digitised, and enabled both the delegated officer and incoming tenant to sign documents electronically, and issue them to the customer via SMS and email. The app also provides the ability to access the Department of Communities and Justice Housing ePay portal to allow incoming tenant to pay 2 weeks advance rent on the spot and receive confirmation receipt.
The Digital Tenant Leases has also empowered Department of Communities and Justice staff to better engage with the customer and guide them about different topics such as establishing utility connections, keeping accounts in order, how to be a good neighbour and how to care for the property. Through this initiative Customers now have access to tenancy related information to support the setup of their new tenancy in one spot.
It’s exciting to know that this initiative has led to an increase in productivity as now 50% less time is spent to perform a lease sign-up. This has also led to a reduction in costs by minimising and eliminating manual processing and data entry, and reducing paper handling costs. This has also eliminated the need for the incoming tenant to physically attend an Australia Post or Service NSW on the day of the lease establishment, thereby improving the overall customer experience.
