Our Customer Payments Team invited partners and agencies to engage with the team and hear from industry experts about the future of payments in Australia and for NSW Government on Wednesday 19 July at Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum.
Andy White, CEO of the Australia Payment Network shared just how far digital payments have come to kick off the session; he referenced the extreme growth of digital, which was amplified by Covid. Andy highlighted how Government agencies need to move away from the reliance of Cheques and BECS (Bulk Electronic Clearing System) for payments out to citizens.
Nick Giurietto, Head of Future Policy from the Australian Banking Association (ABA) followed up, sharing the fascinating (yet scary) reality that we are currently living in with regards to fraud, scams and what basically amounts to digital terrorism. Nick also provided advice on what we can do to help minimize the risk and impact of the increasingly challenging environment we work in.
Our CPP team took to the stage next, with Sarah Boden introducing the CPP suite of products and some of the latest features. Bruce Appleton showed off our new ‘in-app’ mobile payments and the proof of concept the team have recently delivered. Then Nelson Dalmeida got real and went into the architecture of CPP and the security, and technology that enables us to ensure scalability of CPP to keep CPP safe and operating in what can only be described as a “challenging online environment”. Sam Gindy followed with a discussion on “more secure payments” and how our Virtual Contact Centre (VCC) and CPP teams have come together to offer secure (and PCI compliant) phone payments. Russ Murphy then rounded out the CPP portion of the presentation with a look at the CPP roadmap for the next 6-12 months.
Lynne Cardwell, Executive Director, Banking and Financial Services Division NSW Treasury closed the session with a fascinating fireside chat with our industry partners who discussed the future of payments industry and trends for the NSW Government to consider. Thanks to Trent Daniel of Azupay, Peter Cowan from PayPal Australia, Nish Dharmaratne, from Westpac and Andy White from the Australian Payments Network who joined Lynne to deliver an insightful closing segment.
Thanks also to Simon Geraghty, Executive Director GTP who closed the session with some interesting insights and observations of the morning's discussion.
Many thanks to all our presenters and those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help make this event possible, Shivali English, Sara Kootbaully, Kimberlie Musgrave, Sarah Boden, and Ravi Shankar Chandrasekar.
