Citizens can now view real time occupancy of bus and train and make an informed decision on which bus or train to catch. Real time online occupancy information means you can see when a bus or train is full, and choose to wait until another one comes along that has seats available for a more comfortable commute.
Getting the information from moving trains is possible thanks to weight sensors that calculate how many people are on board. On buses, the total number of Opal tap ons and offs at each stop are calculated to estimate the occupancy. The technology means the citizens can now choose what travel time experience they have.
