NSW Government Data Strategy

NSW Government is implementing a significant data reform program to advance the way we use and share data to drive better outcomes. Implementation of the NSW Government Data Strategy forms part of this program and seeks to build upon the cross-sector collaboration, data use and sharing practices established during the COVID-19 pandemic.

NSW Open Data Portal

The NSW Open Data Portal gives the public access to a wide range of data from NSW government departments and agencies and contains almost 15,000 unique datasets. The release of open data supports government transparency and accountability, provides a platform for innovation, generates new insights to inform better public policy and services, and is a key driver for the NSW digital economy. You can get access to these datasets by using the Portal’s search function.

Data Policy

NSW Government is working to create a strong data policy framework to support safe and secure data use and sharing across government.

Access whole-of-government data-related policies, frameworks and tools.

Data Sharing

Data sharing enables rich insights to be generated using data from various sources. To support this, NSW government agencies provide authorised access, usually within government or to research institutions, to the data they hold in a safe and secure manner. Data Sharing Principles are designed to help identify and manage data sharing risks. Under this internationally recognised framework, data sharing risks are managed across five 'safety' dimensions: people, projects, settings, output and data.
