Single Digital Patient Record

The Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR) is a transformational health program that will provide an integrated view of a patient’s care within the NSW Health system.

The SDPR will change how people experience and deliver care in NSW Health, making life easier for patients, carers and NSW Health staff.

It will do this by providing a full picture of a patient's story in one place, unifying access to clinical information, regardless of where consumers and families go to seek care.

It will give clinicians easy and timely access to a holistic record of an individual’s medical information, providing real-time access to medical records and empowering clinical teams to make informed decisions promptly, streamlining processes and reducing administrative burdens on our staff.

Achievements

The SDPR program will deliver a statewide integrated Electronic Medical Record (eMR), Patient Administration System (PAS) and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to 228 public hospitals, 600+ community health centres, 60 pathology laboratories and 150+ pathology collection centres, replacing several existing systems that are widely used across NSW Health services.

The SDPR will be first available in Hunter New England Local Health District and Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, followed by a phased roll out schedule across the state. The overall implementation timeline is expected to be completed by 2028.

Engagement

The Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority has been established to lead the implementation of the SDPR. It is focused on a whole-of-health, collaborative approach and will be delivered in partnership with local health districts, specialty health networks, eHealth NSW, NSW Health Pathology and other NSW Health organisations. Input will be gathered from clinicians, consumers, patients, and technical experts, while Epic Systems has been contracted to provide the technology platform and Amazon Web Services for the hosting of the SDPR.
