Open Data Program
Provision of data and insights for public use
This data is integrated in apps used by millions of passengers each day and informs state strategies and plans. Data is also available through visualisations published on the Transport website recognising the need for simplified and accessible insights beyond the developer community.
Achievements
The Open Data Hub was established in April 2016 at the Future Transport summit and replaced the Transport Data Exchange (TDX) Program. Since the launch, it has had 44.2k active users, 9.3k registered applications and 23 billion API hits.
Engagement
Over 2,500 developers actively collaborate on the Open Data Forum with support from Transport for NSW staff. Beyond data provision, the agency hosts Hackathons and Innovation Challenges to help entrepreneurs create solutions that deliver real customer value, leading to the development of thriving businesses. Notable use cases include digital Learner Driver Log Books and real-time bus and train occupancy information now available on platforms like Google Maps, TripView, and NextThere.
